Fighting For Love : A Movie Review

Fighting For Love

When you feel that he’s the right one, would you fight for it or would you just let love pass you by.”

This is my first time to watch a Hong Kong romantic comedy and it sure didn’t fail me. A story about a tough modern girl named Deborah. Aside from being a businesswoman, there are two other things she loves and that is chain smoking and bullying her office mates. Then one day she met Tung Choi, owner of the number one beef noodle shop in the Kowloon area, after accidentally sideswiping his side mirror which she purposely did and denied.

After a series of events that went from bad to worse, Deborah and Tung Choi’s path cross again. Now broke, living in the hospital with her sister, Tung Choi offered Deborah his house where she can take a bath. Then she met his super dysfunctional family. Upon knowing that his son brought home a girl, Tung Choi’s mother was furious and went home to meet Deborah. However, meeting Deborah gave her a change of heart and instead asked her about her relationship with Tung Choi. Deborah insisted that they’re just friends knowing for a fact that he as a girlfriend, Mindy, who is a well known tv host. Tung Choi’s mother advised her not to compete with Mindy and at the same time agreed that she can stay in their house since she has nowhere to go.

Living together under one roof created a bond between the two and gave them both a chance to realize that they could be falling for each other. Now that Mindy is back, Tung Choi must choose between the two. Who would he choose? Would he go for the popular but jealous and control-freak girlfriend, Mindy or the tough and spontaneous Deborah?

Fighting For Love sure gave me a good laugh. It’s a very light romantic comedy that would make you appreciate how great that feeling of being in love and fighting for your love. There may be a few corny stuff, oh yeah, especially towards the end and they made it seemed so easy to break up. Ha! I like that! However, I like Deborah (Sammi Cheng) she’s funny, crazy and all natural. I thought Tung Choi (Tony Leung Chiu Wai) could be a bit old for the character or not oh well, I’m not really familiar of these stars. However, if you’re looking for a feel good, i-want-to-be-in-love movie, then this will sure be worth your time.

I would rate this 8.5 out of 10!
